CLEAN

I have just finished reading a book, CLEAN, I found very inspirational. Goop.com was recomending it in January and I thought it sounded intresting with a modern information on cleansing away some toxic energy. Normally I am very sceptic to new fads and stick to my Macrobiotic philosophy and Ayurveda treatments.
This is a new way of looking at our modern lifestyle. I guess we all know that fast food, OMG, caffeine, chemicals, computers and mobile phones are not the best for you.
Even then, we generously give our kids a mobile, a practical way to keep track of them.
Are they going to pay for our insecurity ?
And all the other things we do and can not control around us, acid rain, pollution, secondhand smoke and so on.
Well, we can't freak out about it all.
Alejandro Junger is giving information in very simple way and so self explained.
Super inspirational!
Normally , January is the month of fasting, detoxing diets, but I prefer a warmer month like June. I have been preparing myself for a week and should go another week of less food, more drinks.
I desided to share this every day with You and perhaps inspire.... if it is not interesting just skip and read the normal post.

Monty Don's last arrival !

The box of new books came in from Amazonia.com yesterday and it it feels like Christmas Eve again. My first and favorite subject is gardening.
This is the latest book by Monty Don. Actually I think it was launched in 2009. Himself calls the book a love story.
As it is in a form of a diary from the family house and garden it is very nice to read it slowly, month after month.
We will see..I just finished the January chapter. I love M.D. soft, friendly and honest way of writing and he takes you into his garden with a description that you even feel the scent of the flowers and the fruit growing there. I read his books in the winter and dream of what can be done in my small garden.

Dreaming of green plants, flowers is soul food.
In the summer I have his books around to help me when I am stuck or aware of ignorance in carrot growing....
Often I have to run out and save the books from a rain shower in the garden. They are by now so consumed that I have made my own hard cover. But the content is the same and works wonder for me.
His next book "My Dream Farm" should be released in September.

My friend Edy,  just reminded me of that Happiness - is to share passion, experience and doings from day-to-day.

Good reading !

A wonderful fiction with a story within another story about a young poet and his encounters in NY.  I love Paul Auster's way of storytelling. I can highly recommend it, if you did not already read it. It was published in 2009 and it is typical of me to get a bunch of good books and then stack them on a table for a couple of years.

ESKANDAR ( original title )
I can't get my head out of the book... it is 500 pages of wonderful reading. The story is about a young courageous boy, Eskandar. He is taking us through his life in the 20th century Iran. It is full of details, history , culture, politics and love. I should say it is a " must " to read this book. Some critics are comparing it to " Thousand and one nights " which I fully agree with. I am on the last 50 pages by now and I wish it does not come to an end.

To my friends who knows,

The sea can effect your well being...........and alter the sense of time and space.

Cool, calm and collected ............in a flower dress in Greece.
I have not been back to Greece with my husband  for almost 18 years and all my friends  knows why.
We managed to have a disaster holiday. ( all though it did not depend on Greece )
But one thing is sure when you travel to the Greek islands the only way to pack
( classic, not backpacking ) is a suitcase full of flower printed dresses and lots of good books. This is my romantic view of spending a relaxing time on the islands. Just as in the film Tempest with John Cassavetes and Susan Sarandon.

This is the reading i had packed for this holiday.( and i packed light )

What i loved, by Siri Hustvedt - a love story taking place in NY with the suspense of a thriller

Gilead, by Marilynne Robinson - did not read it yet. The Times gave good reviews ... it is a book of such meditative calm, such spiritual intensity that it seems miraculous that her silence was only for twenty-three years...

The ice princess, by Camilla Lackberg - in Italy there is a craze for Scandinavian thrillers after the success of Stieg Larsson and Henning Mankell. I find them everywhere , even at
the gas station and of course i read them in Italian...

Vanninan, by Ewa Franchell  - a nicely written documentary on the political life inside the government in Stockholm. One thing is sure,  that is that i made the correct choice of not having politics as my profession.

and 2 big books( 500 pages ) for my Alementarista study and lots of documents with information on Italian wines and cheeses .

Could you ever think of any better reading on a holiday in Greece ?

Reading for pleasure

I already mentioned my favorite inspiration books in an earlier post. Perhaps reading is easier than being up at dawn collecting slugs ( Oh, I hate them ) and watering the plants that never is showing up. As i also said before that a real gardener never gives in.
I put all the seeds in the vegetable garden just before we got thunder storms and hailing for about three weeks. So I would not be surprised if the carrots and other veggies will appear in the Chestnut hill ( below the Vegetable garden ).  All the work has to be started all over again, but this time I will invest in small plants instead of seeds.
I am slowly learning how to garden from books and mistakes. My father in law was the real gardener in our household for 20 years and just retired from this task.

Monty and Sarah Don keeps me inspired and energized. It is good reading when I am having my breakfast in the garden, looking at the garden, thinking about the garden, planning what needs to be done in the garden.........and never doing enough.

It will eventually happen, i am not giving up.

I better return to the office to all my other projects,
Gunn
